A Brief History of The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International

The Shakarian family escaped the Holocaust in Armenia in the early 1900’s and came to America. Demos Shakarian settled in Downey, California and became a successful dairy farmer, becoming the largest private dairy in the United States at that time. Demos Shakarian founded FGBMFI in 1952 after being given the vision from God. It began as a small chapter of businessmen meeting every week in Clifton’s Cafeteria in Los Angeles, California. The chapter became successful and more chapters were started all over the United States, and eventually spread to many global countries. The informal meetings attracted businessmen who networked with each other and shared how God had impacted their lives for the better.

This vision spread all over the world, and FGBMFI became one of the primary vehicles which God used to start the Neo-Pentecostal, Jesus Movement, Charismatic Renewal in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.

FGBMFI has become one of the largest businessmen networks in the world. The chapters are in over 85 nations, with thousands of chapters globally. The impact of FGBMFI continues to bring men, women, people in business or other fields into this global organization and make a difference in their lives through our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The powerful story of Demos Shakarian and his family, and the history of the FGBMFI is found in the book, “The Happiest People on Earth,” read by millions of people. This original book was out of print for over twenty years, and has now been reprinted with the help of Tim King, the president of our Phoenix chapter, and is available for purchase on our website’s Bookstore page.

The FGBMFI Greater Phoenix Executive Chapter was started with the vision that the Holy Spirit is saying he wants FGBMFI to be raised back up and be available to the next generation of fire starters, so He can use us to help the Church get ready for the soon return of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
